Welcome to Franklin High School's International Baccalaureate program. Franklin High's IB program has become a beacon of excellence in a landscape that was otherwise generally bleak and is the only authorized program in the greater Stockton area. Before the Franklin High School IB Program students in SUSD were underserved in terms academic expectations and achievement. However, with our IB program we have created an oasis of high expectations and exemplary performance. Franklin High School offers the Diploma program, which has been offering students, grades eleven and twelve, a two-year rigorous academic program since the year 1995 and the Middle Years program, offered to students grades six through ten, which is the only MYP program in Stockton that is IB authorized.
The Diploma program coordinator is Sondra L. Knudsen. Prior to becoming the coordinator, Sondra taught Psychology for Franklin High School, for the Diploma program as well as the Teach and Learn Community and Psych 1-2 classes.
The Middle Years program coordinator is Elizabeth James. Prior to becoming the coordinator, Liz not only graduated from the Franklin High IB program, but started working at Franklin in 2007 and has taught MYP 9th and 10th grade English, as well as 11th grade diploma level English.
Did You Know????
Diploma Programme (DP) students are more likely than
A level students to enroll at a top 20 higher education
institution (HEI) in the UK, achieve first-class honours
in most subjects, be employed in graduate level and in
higher-paid occupations, and go onto further study.
IB high school students were more likely than their peers
to have written papers of five pages or more on a regular
basis, discuss ideas with teachers outside of class, believe
their school contributed very much to their ability to
think critically, and strongly agree they felt academically
challenged by their coursework.
In the University of California system, DP performance
was the best predictor of college performance, and
across income groups IB students earned higher grade
point averages and graduated at higher rates.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Program aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. This is accomplished through a challenging program of international education and rigorous assessment.
The Middle Years and Diploma Programs (MYP & DP) inherently rely on and develop internationalism within our students. We believe students must become conscientious citizens of their local and global communities. To this end we require our students to individually seek out and partake in community service that is meaningful to them.
Unlike programs appropriate for only academically gifted students, the IB program was actually designed for academically motivated students. This means that any students who is willing to put in the time and effort can succeed in the IB program.
IB MISSION STATEMENT
The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.
These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
MYP Mission Statement
Life in the 21st century places many changing demands on students making the transition through adolescence. They are at a crucial period of personal, social, physical and intellectual development, of uncertainty and of questioning. The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Middle Years Programme is designed to help them find a sense of belonging in the ever-changing and increasingly interrelated world around them and to foster a positive attitude to learning.
We Need Your Email!
Since we are trying to join the 21st century and the technological age, we are developing a database of our students and parents' email addresses. This will make it much easier to communicate with a large number of people at one time and also to be able to keep in better touch with our graduates. Please contact our office with your name and email contact information as soon as possible. You can email us at email@example.com.
